Recommended professions

Recommended for Rogue:

  • Skinning — Leather to sell from every beast you kill: straightforward gold (rogues kill a lot of beasts).
  • Mining — Ore and bars that sell well; the skill also feeds blacksmithing or engineering later.
  • First Aid — Free bandages: solo survival without relying on potions.
  • Cooking — Food to recover between fights (beast meat, fish).
  • Fishing — Fish for cooking and a bit of gold during downtime.

The rogue is a melee class built on stealth, burst and escapes. In WoW Forever it levels from 1 to 60 without level scaling and without flying, so every fight is decided by how you open it. However generates a full rogue route for your race: quests, trainers, talents, gear and class chains, step by step.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • Stealth lets you walk past packs, reach quest objectives and pick your fights.
  • Strong openers and finishers kill a single target fast.
  • Sprint and Vanish get you out of a lost fight, which matters on a PvP realm.
  • No healing spell: you eat, use bandages and rest between pulls.
  • Two monsters at once are dangerous before your key talents.

Talents and weapons

The guide uses the build Combat (daggers) then Assassination: 35 points in Combat up to level 44 (Dual Wield Specialization, Hack and Slash, Adrenaline Rush), then 16 points in Assassination (Malice, Ruthlessness, Improved Slice and Dice). Forever reworked the rogue tree: Hack and Slash gives the weapon bonus and Puncturing Wounds improves Backstab. The talent calculator also shows an Assassination build with Mutilate, still marked for review.

Carry two daggers, with a sword or a mace as a backup. Agility comes first, then strength and attack power. Hit chance matters because you fight with two weapons, and stamina helps you survive other players.

Energy and combo points

Energy refills on its own, so the rogue rarely stops to drink. Build combo points with Sinister Strike or Backstab, keep Slice and Dice up, then finish with Eviscerate. Before level 40, the guide only buys the essential ranks (Sinister Strike, Eviscerate, Backstab, Slice and Dice, Sprint, Kick) and skips Feint, Expose Armor and Disarm Trap, to save gold for your mount.

Common mistakes

  • Attacking a player without an opener such as Ambush or Cheap Shot.
  • Using Vanish too early: it has a long cooldown, keep it for a lost fight.
  • Skipping the poison quest chain at level 20.
  • Forgetting to train Pick Lock, which opens lockboxes and some quest chests.

What your rogue guide contains

Your guide adds the class quests, the lockpicking chain at level 16, the poison chain at level 20, each trainer visit, one talent point per level from 10, a gear plan for every five levels, macros and PvP advice. Create your rogue or try the rogue talent calculator.

The reference Horde rogue is an undead: it is the route the product was built and reviewed on. Orcs and trolls can also play a rogue. The Windshaper Skyborne, a new Forever race, can too, but However does not generate a guide for that race yet.

  • Undead start in Tirisfal Glades and end their first levels in Brill; orcs and trolls start in Durotar, around Razor Hill.
  • At level 10, the undead class quest leads from Brill to the Rogues' Quarter in Undercity. The chain ends at Varimathras: do not attack him.
  • At level 16, the lockpicking chain goes from Orgrimmar to Ratchet.
  • At level 20, Shenthul in Orgrimmar starts the poison chain. Approach the Venture Co. tower in the northern Barrens in Stealth.
  • The route then follows Silverpine Forest, Tarren Mill and The Barrens. Long escorts are left out.

Read the shared Horde route for the zones after level 30.

Frequently asked questions

Which rogue spec is best for leveling in WoW Forever?
The guide uses Combat with two daggers, then Assassination after level 44. It kills single targets quickly and keeps escapes like Sprint and Vanish. An Assassination build with Mutilate is available in the talent calculator.
Daggers or swords for a leveling rogue?
The guide plans two daggers to open with Backstab, with a sword or a mace kept as a backup. Your gear plan shows which weapon to aim for in each five-level bracket.
When does a rogue get poisons?
Poisons come from a class quest chain at level 20. Your guide places every step of that chain on the route, including the parts that should be done in Stealth.
Is lockpicking worth leveling?
Yes. Pick Lock opens lockboxes and some quest chests, and the lockpicking chain starts at level 16. Your guide includes a plan to raise the skill while you level.
Which race should a rogue pick?
Every listed race works. The guide's reference rogues are the undead for the Horde and the human for the Alliance, but your own guide adapts the start and the class quests to your race.
