Skinning step by step

Combine with other professions

Skinning is a gathering profession: you skin the beasts you kill and collect leather, hides and scales. There is nothing to craft, and the leather sells steadily, so it earns gold with almost no extra effort while you level.

It is a natural pick for classes that kill many beasts, especially rogues, hunters and druids. The cost is low, and the time spent is small, since you skin right after a kill. The skill rises as you skin, so no dedicated farming is needed along the route.

Skinning pairs with Leatherworking, which turns the leather you collect into armor and kits. Taken alone it is a simple way to fund your training and mount. Keep in mind that you can only have two primary professions at once.

Frequently asked questions

Which profession goes best with Skinning?
Leatherworking, which crafts armor and armor kits from the leather you collect. Skinning can also be taken alone, and the leather sells steadily, which is a simple way to fund your training.
Is Skinning good for rogues?
Yes. Rogues kill a lot of beasts while leveling, and each skinned corpse gives leather to sell. It costs little and slows you down very little, which is why it is often recommended for the class.
Does Skinning use a primary profession slot?
Yes. Skinning is a gathering profession and takes one of your two primary profession slots. Cooking, Fishing and First Aid are secondary professions and are never counted in that limit.
