1. Controller

The site publisher, reachable at contact@however.quest.

2. What we do not collect

The site works without an account. Your character profile (name, class, race, faction, professions, level, gold) and progress are stored only in your browser (localStorage / IndexedDB) and never sent to our servers, apart from the usage events described in section 4; export, import or delete them in the Characters page. This storage is strictly necessary for the service you request and does not require consent.

Guide generation sends only generation parameters (class, race, faction, professions, options); the server derives an anonymous fingerprint to cache the result, which contains neither your character name nor any device identifier.

The HoweverGuides in-game addon exchange works through strings that you copy and paste yourself. The guide strings you copy or download, and the game state you paste back from the addon (character name, level, quests, progress, equipment worn and gear targets carried), are built and read only in your browser and never sent to our servers. The character name stays in your browser, and the realm is neither exported by the addon nor stored.

3. Server logs

Our host and server record connection logs (IP address, requested page, timestamp) for security and diagnostics, kept for at most 6 months. Legal basis: legitimate interest. The IP address is truncated before it is recorded (IPv4 /24, IPv6 /48).

4. Audience measurement

We measure site traffic and usage (page views, guides generated and options chosen, steps completed, feedback given on guide steps (thumbs up or down), map zones viewed, macros copied, tools used, language changes) with a system that we host ourselves: no data is sent to any third party. The sole purpose is to improve the guide; the data is not combined with other processing and is not used to track you across sites.

Each event is attached to a random (pseudonymous) identifier generated by your browser and kept in its local storage (localStorage, not a cookie). This identifier is not linked to any identity (no name, e-mail address or account); it is renewed after 13 months and disappears if you clear the site's data. Where relevant, the event also carries the local, opaque technical identifier of the active character (never its name), and the site, generator and game versions, and the display language you chose (the one in the address prefix, such as /en; a language change is also counted). We do not store your IP address or your user agent in this data.

This data is kept for 25 months, then deleted automatically. This measurement falls within the consent exemption provided by the CNIL for audience measurement tools, which is why it does not trigger a banner.

If you use our MCP server (access to the guide's data and generator from an AI assistant, with an API key), the same usage events are counted, attached to a pseudonymous identifier derived from your API key instead of a browser identifier. The retention period is the same (25 months) and no IP address is stored.

When you use the addon exchange, only bounded aggregate events are counted: export method (copy, parts, file), whether the string is generic, its approximate size and number of steps; for an import, the outcome, the game version, the number of completed steps, and whether leveling measurements were received, the route was recalculated, a character was created or the equipment changed, and how many gear targets were obtained. A click on the link to the addon's CurseForge page is counted with only where the link was shown (home page, guide, Characters page). Never the character name, the realm or the content of the strings.

If your browser sends the Do Not Track signal, events are counted without any persistent identifier or link to a character: they cannot be tied back to you. You can also object at any time by writing to contact@however.quest; so that we can find your data, include the identifier shown in your browser's local storage (key wow-helper:visitor).

5. Contact and reports

If you write to us, we keep your message and e-mail address for the time needed to answer, at most 1 year.

The site's “Report a problem” form needs no account and asks for no name, and we store neither your IP address nor your browser with the message. We keep the text you write (category and message), together with technical context shown to you before sending: the page you were on, the selected guide step if any, the generator and game versions, and the class and level of the active character. These messages are read only by the publisher, to fix the site and the guide, and are deleted automatically after 12 months. Please do not put personal data in the message itself.

The form also has an optional e-mail address field. Leave it empty and the message stays anonymous. If you fill it in, you consent to being contacted about that report only, to let you know when it is fixed or to answer your question (legal basis: your consent, shown next to the field). The address is stored with the message, read only by the publisher, and used for nothing else: no newsletter, no other contact, no sharing with third parties, and it never appears in the usage statistics described in section 4. We delete it by hand once we have replied or the problem has been dealt with, and in any case together with the message after 12 months at the latest. You can ask for it to be deleted earlier, or withdraw your consent, at any time by writing to contact@however.quest (mention the date and the content of your message so that we can find it); withdrawing does not affect what was done before.

6. Recipients and transfers

Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability: write to contact@however.quest. You may lodge a complaint with the CNIL (www.cnil.fr, France) or your local authority (ICO in the UK). Data stored in your browser is under your direct control (Characters > Delete all my data).
