Mining step by step

Combine with other professions

Mining is a gathering profession: you find ore veins along the route, mine them and smelt the ore into bars. In WoW Forever it costs almost nothing to learn, and the ore and bars sell well, so it pays for itself while you level.

Every class can take it. It suits melee classes and rogues especially, because walking between quests already takes you past most veins. The cost is low and the time spent is small, since you only stop for the veins you cross. The skill rises as you gather, with no grinding needed.

Mining pairs naturally with Blacksmithing or Engineering, which both consume the bars you smelt. If you take it alone, simply sell what you gather. Remember that you can only keep two primary professions at once.

Frequently asked questions

Which professions go well with Mining?
Blacksmithing and Engineering are the classic partners, because both use the bars you smelt from ore. Mining also works alone as a gold earner, since ore and bars sell well while you level.
Is Mining worth taking while leveling?
Yes, for most characters. It costs very little to learn, it rarely slows you down, and the ore and bars you pick up along the route can be sold or kept for a crafting profession later.
Does Mining count as a primary profession?
Yes. Mining is a gathering profession and takes one of your two primary profession slots. Cooking, Fishing and First Aid are secondary professions and do not count toward that limit.
