WoW Forever: frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions players ask most about WoW Forever, from the release date to transmog, respecs and addons.
This page answers the questions players ask most about WoW Forever, from the release date to transmog, respecs and addons. Each answer is short and, when a rule comes from the beta rather than from an official announcement, it says so. Where a topic has its own page on However, the answer points to it.
Release and versions
WoW Forever launches worldwide on 4 November 2026 and covers levels 1 to 60. The questions below explain what it is, how it differs from Classic, what it costs and which rulesets you can pick, including the Hardcore ruleset that arrives after launch. If you have not chosen a faction yet, the Horde and Alliance leveling guides give a full route from level 1.
Character creation
Name reservation, the new Skyborne races and the new race and class combinations are covered here. The races guide lists every racial ability and every combination, and the leveling tier list compares how fast each class reaches level 60.
Gameplay how-tos
Transmog, fishing, feeding a hunter pet, unlearning a profession, changing layers, resetting talents and dual specialization all work a little differently from Classic. Fishing and the other trades have their own professions pages, and the macros page helps with pet and ability bars.
Progression systems
Mounts, Merchant's Favor, Legacy points, camping, library books and the level of each zone make up the progression systems of Forever. Read the Legacy guide, the camping guide and the library books guide for the details, and check the zones by level before you pick your next area. Dungeon quests and levels are in the dungeons pages.
Tools and addons
Addons made for Classic do not load in Forever, so look for versions built for it. The calculators plan talents, Heritage points and gold, and the atlas shows maps and routes in your browser, with no addon to install.

Frequently asked questions
- When is the WoW Forever release date?
- Blizzard announced that WoW Forever launches worldwide on 4 November 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time. That is 11:00 p.m. in the UK and midnight in central Europe, so the launch falls on 5 November there.
- What is WoW Forever?
- WoW Forever is a version of World of Warcraft covering levels 1 to 60, set before Molten Core. It builds on the original game with new zones, dungeons, raids, races, abilities and race and class combinations, and it runs on a modern game client.
- What is the difference between WoW Forever and Classic?
- Classic recreates the original game as it was. Forever keeps the 1 to 60 journey but adds new zones, the Skyborne races, new combinations, reworked racial abilities, optional transmog, camping, the Legacy system and rulesets in place of realms.
- How much does WoW Forever cost, and is there a subscription?
- Blizzard states that WoW Forever is included with a standard World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. Optional paid editions add cosmetics and the Skyborne race. The monthly price depends on your region, so check the Battle.net shop.
- What is the level cap in WoW Forever?
- The level cap at launch is 60. The journey runs from level 1 to level 60, with a Skyborne starting experience on Zephras Isle, and the raids are designed for level 60 characters. Nothing beyond level 60 has been announced.
- Which rulesets can I choose in WoW Forever?
- Four rulesets are available at launch: Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP. You cannot switch ruleset on a character, so you create a new one. You can only group, join guilds and run dungeons with players of your ruleset and faction.
- Is there a Hardcore mode in WoW Forever?
- Blizzard has announced a Hardcore ruleset, but it is not available at launch. It will arrive sometime after launch, with no date given. It will be separate from the other rulesets, and its characters will not group with them.
- How do I reserve my character name?
- According to Blizzard, early name reservation came with the Skyborne Heroic Pack and the higher editions. If you did not buy one, you pick your name when you create the character, so have a few alternatives ready for launch day.
- What are the new races, classes and combinations?
- No new class appears in the client data we read: the nine Classic classes remain. The new races are the Skyborne, one for each faction. New combinations include Undead Paladin, Orc Mage, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman and Gnome Priest.
- How do I transmog gear in WoW Forever?
- Transmog is optional. According to beta guides, you visit a transmogrifier in a capital city, and appearances you unlock are shared across your account. You cannot change armor type, so cloth stays cloth. A toggle at the same NPC hides other players' transmog.
- How do I fish in WoW Forever?
- Fishing is a secondary profession, and every character can learn all three: Cooking, Fishing and First Aid. Learn it from a trainer, equip a fishing pole, then cast at water or a fishing pool and click the bobber when it dips.
- How do I feed my hunter pet?
- Hunters learn Feed Pet early, as in Classic. Cast it on your pet while out of combat, then give it food from its diet. Feeding raises its happiness, which affects the damage it deals, so keep food in your bags before long quest trips.
- How do I unlearn a profession?
- As in Classic, open your professions or skills window and use the unlearn button next to the profession. You lose your skill in it, and learning it again restarts from zero. Only two primary professions can be known at once, so drop one before changing.
- How do I change layers in WoW Forever?
- Forever has no realms, and Blizzard moves players between layers itself. When a change is needed, you get a notice with five minutes to move somewhere safe, then you click Refresh Now. We could not confirm any way to force a change.
- How do I reset my talents (respec) in WoW Forever?
- Visit a class trainer in a major city to reset your talents. Legacy perks are reset at the same trainer. On the beta a respec costs only 1 silver, which Blizzard calls temporary, and the launch price has not been announced.
- Is there dual spec in WoW Forever?
- Yes. Dual specialization unlocks at level 40 from a class trainer in a major city, according to Blizzard. The gold cost of the second specialization has not been announced, so plan to save some gold when you reach level 40.
- How do I install addons for WoW Forever?
- Use an addon manager such as the CurseForge or Wago apps and select WoW Forever as the game version, or copy the addon folder into the AddOns folder of the Forever client by hand. Addons made for Classic do not load, so pick versions built for Forever.
- At what level can I buy a mount, and how much does it cost?
- Apprentice riding unlocks at level 40 and the epic mount at level 60. On the beta, our plan counts about 100 gold at level 40 and about 1,000 gold at level 60, mount included. Honored reputation with your home faction gives a 10% discount.
- What is Merchant's Favor in WoW Forever?
- Merchant's Favor is a currency of the two trading companies. According to community beta guides, you earn it by returning supply crates, each paying 5, 10 or 20, and spend it at the trading camps on recipes, gear, mounts, pets and cosmetics.
- What are Legacy points and how do I earn them?
- Legacy points are an account-wide progression. You earn them from Legacy challenges, 65 in all, and the first point typically comes around level 25. Each character can then spend up to 16 points in the three perk trees.
- What is camping in WoW Forever?
- Camping is a system shared by the professions. A cook lights a campfire, and players place camp objects around it to grant buffs or services to those sitting nearby. See our camping guide for the recipes, the skill levels and the rested experience figures.
- What are library books in WoW Forever?
- Library books are collectible books found around the world. According to our guide, you bring them to a book keeper and get rewards at 10, 20 and 25 books. The library books page lists where to find each one.
- At what level should I leave each zone?
- There is no single answer, because routes differ by faction. Our zones page lists the leveling zones by bracket from 10 to 60. As a rule, move on when most remaining quests turn grey and you have turned in the finished ones.
- Which class levels fastest from 1 to 60?
- It depends on the class, the faction and your route. Our leveling tier list ranks the classes by the hours played they need to reach level 60 on simulated routes, so use it as a comparison rather than a promise of your own pace.
