WoW Forever Legacy guide: points and perks
Legacy is the account-wide progression system of WoW Forever: every character you level earns points that you spend on permanent perks shared by all your alts. This page lists where the points come from, what each perk does and the order we recommend buying them.
How to earn Legacy points
- Reach level 25, 45, 60 for the first time with each class: 1 point each.
- Reach 150, 225, 300 skill in a main profession (Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, Tailoring): 1 point per tier and profession.
- You can spend up to 16 points per character; challenges can give more points than that.
- 65 challenges feed the pool, from class levels to dungeons, raids and exploration.

WoW Forever adds an account progression system called Legacy. The Legacy calculator plans how to spend its points, and the Legacy plan organises the characters that earn them. This page explains how the system works and how to make the most of it while levelling.
An account system, not a character one
Legacy points belong to your account. They come from account achievements called Legacy Challenges, and every character on the account can then spend them in its own perk trees, up to 16 points per character. Each character chooses its own perks: a gatherer and a levelling character can use the same points in very different ways.
- Reaching level 25, 45 and 60 for the first time with each class gives one point per level.
- Reaching 150, 225 and 300 skill for the first time in Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking or Tailoring gives one point per tier. Gathering professions, Cooking, First Aid and Fishing have no challenge.
- Other challenges cover dungeons, raids, PvP ranks and battlegrounds, and exploration: 65 challenges in all, one point each.
The three trees
- Professions: crafting, gathering and gold. Working Overtime raises your chance of a skill increase when you use a trade.
- Adventure: levelling, exploration and utility. Well Rested makes rested experience build faster and raises its cap, Talented gives talent points before level 10, and Thrill of Adventure restores health and mana after each killing blow outside dungeons, raids and battlegrounds.
- Resourcefulness: upkeep, reputation and honor.
Some perks only open after a number of points spent in their tree, or after another perk at full rank: Talented needs Well Rested at rank 5. A few perks were still locked in the beta. According to beta players, perks can be reset at a class trainer for a fee.
Why play several characters in turn
Most points come from first times: the first character of each class to reach level 25, the first trade to reach 150. Several characters levelled side by side therefore earn points much faster than one character alone. Rotation also uses rested experience: while you play one character, the others wait at an inn and build up rested experience, which gives extra experience from kills until it runs out. Campfires and camp features also give rest away from towns; see the camping guide.
What to buy first
The standard Legacy plan follows three phases:
- Four core characters carry the six challenge professions and reach level 25, which already earns ten points. The first points go to Working Overtime, so every trade levels faster on every character.
- Five rested characters, with no professions, are created and parked at an inn. Their points go to Well Rested and then Talented: they rest faster and get their talents earlier.
- The core characters then reach level 35 and 225 skill and complete a first dungeon challenge. Thrill of Adventure joins Working Overtime and Well Rested to cut downtime between pulls.
The Legacy plan page lists the exact ranks for each phase and opens them in the calculator.
How However helps
- The Legacy calculator checks the spending rules, saves templates in your browser and shares a build by link. It also imports Wowhead links.
- The Legacy Challenges checklist groups the 65 challenges and counts your points.
- The Legacy plan is kept for your characters: it orders them into slots, estimates their rested experience, shows who to play now and deduces the challenges they have earned.
- Each Forever guide marks the steps that earn a point: levels 25, 45 and 60, and the first 150, 225 and 300 of a challenge profession.
Frequently asked questions
- What are Legacy points in WoW Forever?
- Legacy points are an account currency. Account achievements grant them, and each character spends up to 16 of them on perks in three trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness.
- How do I earn Legacy points?
- Each challenge grants one point: the first time each class reaches level 25, 45 and 60, the first 150, 225 and 300 skill in six crafting professions, plus dungeon, raid, PvP and exploration challenges, 65 in all.
- Are Legacy perks account-wide?
- The points are account-wide, but the perks are not shared. Every character spends the account's points on its own perks, up to 16, so a gatherer and a levelling character can pick different builds.
- What should I buy first?
- The standard Legacy plan starts with Working Overtime while the core characters level their trades, then Well Rested and Talented for the rested characters, then Thrill of Adventure. The Legacy calculator checks each build before you spend.
- Does rested XP stack with Legacy perks?
- Yes. Well Rested makes rested experience build faster and raises its cap, up to 20% each at rank 5. However's rested estimate does not include this perk, so you can adjust the value by hand in the Legacy plan.
