WoW Forever library books: locations and rewards

The books come from the mage questline of Season of Discovery, where mages collected them to learn class runes. Forever opens them to every class. A book is not a drop: it is a glittering object placed in the world, often on a table, a shelf or a barrel inside a building, a cave or a ruin. Each book has its own hand-in quest, so you can turn them in one at a time, whenever you pass by the librarian.

• Horde: Owen Thadd, in the Magic Quarter of Undercity.
• Alliance: Garion Wendell, in the Mage Quarter of Stormwind City, at the top of the Wizard's Sanctum.

Both accept every book, so a Horde player can hand in a book found in an Alliance zone. Our game data also shows that the eight books added last (in the Plaguelands, Blackrock Mountain, Felwood and Winterspring) end at another character of the capital, so check the quest giver before you travel there.

Hand-ins add up: the books you turned in for the first reward count toward the second and the third. You never need more than 25 different books.

• 10 books, from level 1: Scholarly Pendant, with Stamina and Spirit, for priests, mages, warlocks and healers; or Erudite's Amulet, with Stamina and Agility, for rogues, hunters, feral druids and shamans who melee.
• 20 books, from level 20: Field Researcher's Loop, with Stamina and Agility, for physical damage dealers; or Philanthropist's Ring, with Intellect and spell power, for casters.
• 25 books, from level 30: Truthseeker's Bow for hunters, Crest of Elucidation, a healing shield for paladins and shamans, or Researcher's Night Light, an off-hand with fire spell damage for mages. The shield and the off-hand require level 40 in the game data.

You do not need a dedicated tour. Most books sit in places a normal route already visits, so pick them up as you quest and hand them in when you go back to your capital.

• On the Horde route: Tirisfal Glades, Silverpine Forest, Orgrimmar, The Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains hold eight books before level 25. Duskwood and the Wetlands bring you to ten.
• On the Alliance route: Elwynn Forest, Westfall, Loch Modan, Darkshore, Ironforge, Duskwood and the Wetlands hold eight books. The three books of The Barrens, open to both factions, take you past ten.
• Contested zones from level 30 onward, such as Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace and the Badlands, complete the second and third rewards.
• Detour only when the book is close: a short walk inside a cave you are already clearing is worth it, a flight across the continent for one book is not.

The zones of the table follow the leveling order of the leveling guide, and each zone links to its map in the atlas.

Community addons such as Library Books, Books on Map Forever and OneForAll place map pins on the books. They are optional: the coordinates on this page are enough with the default map. Positions come from beta reports and Season of Discovery guides. When only one source gives a position, or when the sources disagree, the book is marked to confirm. Some books also have a second spawn point, shown under their coordinates; the same book only counts once.
