Rested XP
- Every 8 hours spent offline in an inn adds 5% of a level of rested XP.
- Rested XP is capped at 150% of a level, which takes 240 hours (10 days) offline in an inn.
- Offline outside an inn, it builds up at 25% of that rate: 1.25% of a level every 8 hours.
Camping is one of the new systems of WoW Forever. You build a small camp in the open world around a campfire, sit down, and the objects placed around the fire give you and nearby players short buffs or services. This page explains how it works and when it is worth stopping to camp while you level.
What camping is
Camping is not a profession of its own. The campfire comes from Cooking: from skill 1, a cook can craft a Basic Campfire Kit with Simple Wood and a Flint and Tinder. The other professions each add camp objects that you place next to a lit fire. Two of them matter most for leveling: the Camp Tent, made with Leatherworking, and the Camp Chair, made with Skinning. According to the beta, an early quest around levels 5 to 6 introduces the system, and each profession has a short introduction quest for its first camp object.
How to set up a camp
- Place the campfire outdoors. According to beta reports, cities and some areas refuse it, and two fires cannot sit too close to each other.
- Sit near the fire. The Welcoming Campfire effect grants the camp benefits after a short time spent sitting nearby; the beta reports about one minute, sitting or crafting.
- Each player adds one camp object at a time. On the beta, camp objects share a cooldown of about one hour, so a full camp needs several players.
- You do not need to be grouped with the player who lit the fire to use the camp.
- Most camp buffs reportedly last one hour, and dying removes them: you must camp again to get them back.
Campfire kits by skill level
A bigger fire holds more camp objects. The Basic Campfire Kit is available from Cooking 1 and holds three objects. The Journeyman Campfire Kit needs Cooking 90 and Star Wood, and holds five. The Expert Campfire Kit needs Cooking 200 and Thick Logs, and holds ten. The two upgrades are not taught by the trainer: you learn them from Blueprint: Journeyman Campfire and Blueprint: Expert Campfire. Our data does not yet confirm where these blueprints drop.
The recipe table on this page is generated from the game data: for each camping recipe it shows the item, the skill levels where it turns orange, yellow, green and grey, the reagents and how you learn it. Use it to plan when to craft the next kit while you level Cooking.
Rested experience and the Camp Tent
The Camp Tent is the leveling object. Sitting near it raises your rested experience up to 5% of a level, once per hour, with no effect if you already have more than that. It is a small top-up, not a replacement for an inn.
Logging out is different. Our data does not confirm that a campfire counts as an inn. The Legacy plan therefore assumes the usual estimate: 5% of a level every 8 hours in an inn, up to 150%, and only a quarter of that rate outside an inn. Read the Legacy guide to see how rested experience fits with playing several characters in turn.
When to camp while leveling
- Before a long questing loop far from town, to start with the one-hour buffs.
- Between two zones, when you stop to craft, cook or sort your bags anyway.
- At the end of a session away from an inn, to top up rested experience with a Camp Tent before you log out.
- With other players nearby: their objects make the camp stronger at no cost to you.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder: without them, a cook cannot light the fire.
- Standing next to the fire instead of sitting: the benefits only come after you sit or craft nearby.
- Expecting a campfire to replace an inn for logging out: plan the night in an inn or a city.
- Skipping Cooking on a gathering character: one cook in the group is enough, but someone has to light the fire.
- Dying right after camping: the buffs are lost, so camp again before a risky pull.

Frequently asked questions
- Do campfires give rested XP in WoW Forever?
- A campfire alone does not seem to. The Camp Tent, a Leatherworking camp object, raises your rested experience up to 5% of a level once per hour while you sit nearby. Our data does not confirm that logging out at a campfire works like an inn.
- How do I learn Journeyman Campfire?
- Journeyman Campfire is a Cooking recipe usable from skill 90. It is not taught by the trainer: you learn it from the Blueprint: Journeyman Campfire item. Its source is not confirmed in our data yet, so check the recipe table on this page.
- Is camping a profession?
- No. Camping is a system shared by the professions. Cooking makes the campfire kits, and every other profession can craft camp objects that you place around a lit fire to grant buffs or services to nearby players.
- Should I log out at a campfire or an inn?
- Log out at an inn or in a city when you can. Our data does not confirm that a campfire counts as an inn, so the Legacy plan assumes only a quarter of the inn rate when you log out anywhere else.
- What are Camp Tent and Camp Chair for?
- The Camp Tent, from Leatherworking, tops up rested experience to 5% of a level. The Camp Chair, from Skinning, gives a critical strike chance bonus to players sitting nearby. According to the beta, both buffs require sitting near a lit campfire.
