Recommended professions

Recommended for Warlock:

  • First Aid — Free bandages: fewer breaks and less food to buy.
  • Cooking — Food that restores health and mana between fights.
  • Fishing — Fish for cooking and some extra gold during downtime.

The warlock is a cloth caster who fights with a demon at its side. It stacks damage over time on its targets, drains their life and lets its demon hold them. However builds a step-by-step leveling route for the warlock in WoW Forever, from level 1 to 60, with every quest, trainer visit and trip shown on the map.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • Your demon tanks or helps from level 1: the Imp first, then the Voidwalker from level 10.
  • Damage over time lets you start on a second target while the first one dies.
  • Life Tap turns health into mana, and Drain Life gives health back: little downtime.
  • Fear, Healthstone and Soulstone give you ways out of a bad fight.
  • Fragile in cloth, and slow to kill a single target without your demon.
  • Each new demon costs a class quest chain, and some spells use Soul Shards.

Recommended leveling spec: Affliction then Demonology

The guide's build puts 31 points in Affliction up to Wrack at level 40: Improved Corruption makes Corruption instant, with Suppression, Malediction, Nightfall, Siphon Life and Shadow Mastery on the way. It then adds 20 points in Demonology for the demon and your health: Demonic Embrace, Fel Vitality, Improved Voidwalker, Unholy Power, Demonic Aegis and Master Summoner. A Destruction then Demonology build, built around Incinerate, is offered as an alternative; it still needs to be checked in game.

To save gold for your mount, the guide skips spells that do not help solo leveling, such as Rain of Fire, Hellfire, Soul Fire and the extra curses.

Weapons, stats and resources

  • Weapons: a dagger or a staff, and a wand. No vendor sells a wand before level 15.
  • Stats: intellect and spell damage first, with stamina close behind: Life Tap and your demon cost health.
  • Keep a few Soul Shards: Drain Soul on a dying monster gives one.
  • Use the Voidwalker to hold monsters while Corruption, Curse of Agony and Immolate do the work, then finish with the wand.

Common mistakes

  • Fighting without your demon, or letting it die and resummoning it in the middle of a pull.
  • Using Fear near other monsters: the target runs and brings friends back.
  • Leaving town without a Healthstone or a Soulstone on yourself.
  • Buying every rank of every spell and arriving at level 40 without mount gold.

What your However guide includes

Your guide adds the warlock class quests for each demon, every trainer visit with the spells worth buying, the talent order, a weapon and wand plan by level bracket, and safety notes for PvP realms. Create your warlock to get it, or try the build in the talent calculator.

The Alliance reference warlock is a human. Humans and gnomes can both be warlocks. Humans start in Elwynn Forest and gnomes in Dun Morogh. Both learn to summon the Imp with a quest at level 1.

  • At level 10 and level 20, the Voidwalker and Succubus chains go through Gakin the Darkbinder in Stormwind.
  • A level 25 class quest rewards the Dread Mage Hat, a cloth helmet.
  • At level 30, the Felhunter chain, and at level 40 the Felsteed class mount, go through Strahad Farsan in Ratchet, on Kalimdor.
  • Wands are sold by Ardwyn Cailen in Stormwind and Harick Boulderdrum in Ironforge.
  • From level 10, the shared Alliance route continues in Westfall.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best warlock spec for leveling in WoW Forever?
The guide uses Affliction then Demonology: 31 points in Affliction up to Wrack at level 40 for instant Corruption and strong damage over time, then Demonology for a sturdier demon and more health.
Which demon should a warlock use while leveling?
The Voidwalker, learned through a class quest chain at level 10, is the leveling demon of the guide's build: it holds monsters while your damage over time works. The Imp covers the first levels.
When can a warlock use a wand?
The warlock can use a wand from the start, but no vendor sells one before level 15. The guide plans a vendor wand from that bracket, and you use it to finish targets and save mana.
Does the warlock get a class mount?
Yes. The warlock learns to summon the Felsteed through a class quest at level 40, given by Strahad Farsan. The guide places this quest and the trip it needs on your route.
Does the guide include every warlock class quest?
The guide includes the quests for the Imp, the Voidwalker, the Succubus, the Felhunter and the Felsteed. It leaves out chains that end with a group elite or a dungeon, such as the Inferno chain.
