Tailoring step by step

Combine with other professions

Tailoring is a crafting profession: you sew cloth into armor, bags and a few useful items. Bags are always in demand, and cloth armor is the right gear for the classes that wear it, so you can equip yourself while you level.

It suits mages, priests and warlocks first, since they wear cloth, but any class can sew bags to carry more. The cost is moderate to high, because recipes use a lot of cloth, and the time spent is long. Cloth drops from humanoid monsters along the route, so you collect much of it as you quest.

The classic combination is Tailoring with Enchanting: you craft cloth gear, disenchant what you do not need, and enchant your own equipment. It uses one of your two primary slots. Your guide lists the cloth to gather or buy for each step.

Frequently asked questions

Which profession pairs best with Tailoring?
Enchanting. You sew cloth gear, disenchant what you do not need, and use the resulting materials to enchant your own equipment. Tailoring also works well with a gathering profession that earns gold to buy the missing cloth.
Which classes benefit most from Tailoring?
Mages, priests and warlocks, because they wear cloth and can use what they sew. Every class benefits from sewing bags, though, since extra bag space is useful for loot, materials and consumables.
Where does the cloth come from?
Mostly from humanoid monsters you kill along your route, so you gather a lot while questing. Your guide also marks when to buy cloth from vendors or the auction house, so you never stall on a recipe.
