Engineering WoW Forever leveling guide 1-300
Example guide: undead rogue (Horde, WoW Forever). Create your character to get yours.
Engineering step by step
Engineering is a crafting profession: you build explosives, gadgets, goggles and scopes from bars, cloth and parts. It is one of the most demanding professions to level, with a high material cost and a long list of recipes, but its tools are useful in combat and in the field.
It suits classes that can use a ranged burst or a handy escape, such as rogues, warriors and hunters, and it is popular in PvP. Expect a high cost and a fairly large time investment compared with a gathering profession, so plan your materials ahead.
The classic combination is Mining with Engineering: you mine and smelt the bars that Engineering consumes. Your guide lists the shopping list and the order of recipes, so you buy and gather only what you need. Remember that it uses one of your two primary slots.

Frequently asked questions
- Which profession should I pair with Engineering?
- Mining. Engineering uses a lot of bars, and mining and smelting them yourself greatly lowers the cost. Without Mining, expect to buy most of your materials or find them elsewhere along the route.
- Is Engineering expensive to level?
- It is one of the more expensive professions, because many recipes use bars, cloth and parts. Gathering your own materials and following the guide's shopping list keeps the cost reasonable.
- What can Engineering make that helps while leveling?
- Explosives to deal burst damage, tools to escape or interrupt an enemy, and goggles and scopes that improve your gear. These are handy for solo play and for PvP, where a quick trick can decide a fight.
