Enchanting step by step
Enchanting is a crafting profession with a twist: you disassemble unwanted green and better gear into dusts, essences and shards, then use those materials to enchant your own equipment. It has no gathering step, so the materials come from loot you would otherwise sell or throw away.
It suits any class that wants a small stat boost on its gear, and especially characters who find a lot of loot. The cost is moderate at the start, since early enchants are cheap but the skill rises slowly, and the time spent depends on how much gear you collect. Many recipes come from trainers and vendors that your guide marks.
The classic combination is Enchanting with Tailoring, which supplies cloth gear to disenchant. It uses one of your two primary slots. A rod is required for every enchant, and the guide tells you when to craft it.

Frequently asked questions
- Which profession pairs best with Enchanting?
- Tailoring. You craft cloth gear, disenchant what you do not need, and use the materials to raise your Enchanting skill. Enchanting also works alone if you keep and disenchant the gear you loot while leveling.
- Where do Enchanting materials come from?
- From disenchanting green and better gear that you loot or buy. You do not gather anything. Gear you cannot use is turned into dusts, essences and shards instead of being sold or thrown away.
- Is Enchanting worth taking while leveling?
- It can be, if you want better stats on your gear and you loot a lot of equipment. It does not earn gold as quickly as gathering, so it is a better choice for dungeon-heavy or crafting-focused characters.
