Blacksmithing step by step

Combine with other professions

Blacksmithing is a crafting profession: you forge weapons, plate and mail armor, and sharpening stones from metal bars. It is one of the most expensive professions to level, but you can equip yourself with the gear you make, and sharpening stones help every melee fighter.

It suits warriors, paladins and other melee classes, and shamans and hunters who wear mail. The cost is high, since recipes use many bars, and the time spent is long. Higher ranks need more trips to trainers and a few recipes that come from quests or vendors, which your guide lists.

The classic combination is Mining with Blacksmithing: you mine and smelt the bars you forge. It uses one of your two primary slots. Without Mining, plan to buy a lot of bars, so check the shopping list before you start.

Frequently asked questions

Which profession pairs best with Blacksmithing?
Mining. Blacksmithing consumes a large number of bars, and mining and smelting them yourself greatly reduces the cost. Without Mining, expect to buy bars, which makes this one of the costlier professions.
Is Blacksmithing worth it while leveling?
Mostly for melee classes. You can wear the gear you forge, and sharpening stones raise your damage. The cost is high, so it is best when you also mine your own metal along the route.
Which classes should take Blacksmithing?
Warriors and paladins gain the most, since they wear heavy armor and use weapons. Rogues, shamans and hunters can use it too, mostly for weapons, sharpening stones and the gear they craft along the way.
